Description:

Acacia leiocalyx, commonly known as Black Wattle or Early Flowering Black Wattle, is a versatile Australian native species that is highly valued for its rapid growth and adaptability. Growing to a height of 5–12 metres, it is an ideal choice for revegetation projects, erosion control, and wildlife-friendly landscapes.

This small to medium-sized tree features smooth bark, slender phyllodes (leaf-like structures), and masses of golden-yellow, fragrant flowers that bloom from late winter to early summer. It thrives in a range of environments and improves soil health through nitrogen fixation, making it a popular option for regenerative planting efforts.

💮 Key Features:

  • Small to Medium Tree: Grows up to 5–12 metres in height
  • Fast-growing and Hardy: Suitable for revegetation and erosion control
  • Wildlife-Friendly: Attracts bees, birds, and other pollinators
  • Golden Blooms: Produces clusters of bright yellow flowers

☀️Growing Conditions:

  • Soil: Adapts to most well-drained soils, including sandy, loamy, and clay-based types
  • Position: Full sun or partial shade
  • Watering: Moderate watering during establishment; drought-tolerant once established
  • Climate: Thrives in temperate and subtropical regions

🌱Propagation Instructions:

  1. Pre-treatment: Place seeds in a heatproof container. Pour boiling water over them to fully cover. Let soak overnight.
  2. Prepare the Soil: Fill a pot or seed tray with a quality seed-raising mix.
  3. Sow Seeds: Place the pre-treated seeds on the soil surface and gently cover them with a thin layer of soil.
  4. Position: Place the container in a warm, sunny location.
  5. Watering: Water thoroughly and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
  6. Germination: Seeds typically germinate within 2–6 weeks, depending on conditions.
